The math

Tell me how wide your sofa is. Designers say the art over it should be about two-thirds as wide. I will tell you what to get, even when the answer is a smaller one.

The rule of thumb: art about two-thirds the width of the furniture under it, with some guides allowing 50 to 75 percent, and 6 to 10 inches of gap above the sofa back. A design guideline, not a law. Sizes are measured along the wide side, hung landscape: hung portrait, a 40x60 is 40 inches wide. Not every photograph holds up at every size; Print Check tells you which. to confirm once the files are measured
